Pat Khul, Professor, Bezos Family Foundation, talks about her successful brain-based bilingualism programme (I-Labs Bilingual Baby Method). This method, based on social play, is implemented in 13 centres in Madrid and more than 800 children have already benefited from it. To learn one or more languages, it is important to know how the brain works throughout the different stages of life, with the plasticity of the brain being higher the earlier the stage we are at. Pat Khul believes that any child can learn one or more languages throughout their life if taught at the right time and with the right method. In this sense, she believes that the most suitable method is one that facilitates social exposure and interaction. At the panel discussion, together with Pat Khul, the speakers, Bernhard Niesner, CEO of Busuu; Cris Viedma, CEO of Lingokids and Richard Vaughan, Founder and Director of Vaughan Systems, explain their learning methods for learning a second language. Each of these methods targets different groups, and the motivations for learning a language differ, ranging from professional to leisure purposes. Social exposure always yields better results when learning a language. Learning a language is not just about learning words or grammar: it goes beyond that, such as understanding different cultures and connecting with other people. The role of technology is more focused on finding out the most effective way to learn a language.
