In search of the best
edtech startups in the world

The awards seek the most innovative, socially impactful and scalable Education and Technology entrepreneurial initiatives.

To identify and promote the world’s best entrepreneurial ideas in education, innovation and edtech. This is the main objective of the enlightED Awards, awards given for the second consecutive year within the framework of enlightED, organised by Fundación Telefónica, IE University, Fundación Santillana and South Summit, together with partners such as Wayra and Telefónica Educación Digital.

The winners will be announced at the second edition of enlightED, from 2 to 4 October in Madrid as part of South Summit 2019.

enlightED will award prizes in the following four categories:

IE University Award

Best Startup in Higher Education

Fundación Telefónica and Telefónica Digital Education Award

Startup with the best technological solution for learning and training

Fundación Santillana Award

Startup with the Greatest Social impact on Education

Wayra Award

Most Scalable Edtech Startup

The winning startups will have access to the Edtech IE Rockets startups accelerator; the Wayra international entrepreneurship network and the entire South Summit investment ecosystem, as well as the opportunity to collaborate with its partners and collaborators

enlightED 2019 has selected the 10 finalist startups in a new edition of the enlightED Awards 2019. The winning projects have been selected from more than 580 candidates for the best in education, innovation and edtech and will be the winners of the South Summit 2019 Startup Competition

60% of the candidatures presented in this edition come from 73 different countries and have been analysed by a selection committee made up of an international network of investors, entrepreneurs and experts in different industries. The criteria for the final selection include their innovative character, feasibility and scalability, among others, so it is not surprising that 25% of candidates are in the growth phase.
