Nassim Nicholas Taleb, essayist and author of ‘The Black Swan’,in response to the questions posed by Teresa Martín-Retortillo, Executive Chair of IE University’s Executive Education Department, reflects on the concept of a Black Swan, which he defines as an event that is not only highly unlikely but also has massive consequences and cannot be foreseen. The coronavirus pandemic, however, is not a Black Swan for Taleb, who believes that there was sufficient historical precedent to foresee the next pandemic. In this context of uncertainty and volatility, the crisis also provides new opportunities and strengthens companies for the challenges ahead.
